Police said Thursday that the cocaine was hidden in a refrigerated container filled with shrimp from the South American country. Four people aged between 36 and 64 were detained.

Greek investigators were targeted by a drug gang based on a tip from the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police said that before their arrest, the gang had made about €5 million ($5.4 million) from smuggling.

The market value of the seized cocaine is estimated by experts at approximately €500,000. South-eastern Europe is considered a major center of the illegal drug trade.
