New Delhi [India], Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah congratulated the Indian women's team for their "fantastic victory" against South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday.

It was a game where records fell on Day 1, with India posting the highest Day 1 total in women's cricket with a score of 525/4 on the board.

The opening day also saw the highest opening partnership in women's Test cricket, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana forging a 292-run partnership for the first wicket.

In response, South Africa received package 266. But the Proteas put up a strong fight trying to rewrite history. However, they managed to add a paltry total of 37 after India imposed a follow-on.

"What a fantastic win for our girls in the one-off Test against South Africa! @SnehRana15 couldn't play with her breaks, recording the third-best innings figures (8/77) in the women's Tests. Great centuries from @TheShafaliVerma and @mandhana_smriti us provided the right platform. On with the T20s!" Jay Shah wrote in X.

After India imposed the follow-on on the visitors, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus gave the hosts a chance with a splendid performance with the bat.

They made the Indian bowlers reel as they showcased their artistry with the bat. The duo put together a 190-run stand to keep them in the thick of the action.

When the partnership looked dangerous, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur took the responsibility and broke her position by breaking Luus' defense and ending her time in the crease for 109.

Wolvaardt, who was almost flawless during her time at the crease, scored 122 off 314 deliveries before being pinned in front of the stumps by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

South Africa folded for 373 in the second innings, India chased down the target of 37 runs in 9.2 overs and sealed a comprehensive 10-wicket victory.
