He said Bose, who is the chancellor of state-run universities, took the decision after receiving "confidential information" that "due to vested interests we may hold convocations in a state-run university for political purposes".

"The chancellor took legal advice and also spoke to the University Coordination Center (UCC) and decided to hold the convocation after the elections," the official said.

The convocation ceremony was scheduled to be held on April 27.

He also advised officials of state-run universities not to participate in political activities and respect election laws.
