Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said Governor Ramesh Bais has given in-principle approval to the Rs 80,000 crore Wainganga-Nalganga river interlinking project.

"I met Governor Bais on July 9 and requested for immediate approval for the Wainganga-Nalganga river link project. He has given in-principle approval for the project, which will cost around Rs 80,000 crore," Fadnavis said on Twitter.

He said that this project will change the face of Vidarbha region.

By connecting Wainganga river flowing through Bhandara and Nalganga in Buldhana with a 550 km long canal, 3.71 lakh hectares of land in six districts of Vidarbha will be brought under irrigation.
