New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said the central government is reviving the cultural heritage and glory of the country besides making efforts to build the future of the nation, taking pride in both 'vikas' and 'virasat'.

Addressing the joint session of Parliament, Murmu also praised the new campus of Nalanda University, which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bihar.

This was the president's first speech in Parliament after the 2024 general election.

"My government, apart from making efforts to build a future, is also reviving the cultural heritage and glory of the country. Recently, the new grand campus of Nalanda University that was inaugurated has added a new chapter to this," he said.

Nalanda was not just a university but also a "proof of India's glorious past" and "I am sure that the new Nalanda University will contribute to making India a global center of knowledge," Murmu said.

In his speech, he also highlighted that several pilgrimage sites and faith centers in the country are being rejuvenated so that people can draw inspiration from their ancient culture.

"My government, together with the 'vikas', is also working on the 'virasat', with the same pride," the president said.

He also mentioned that tribal leader Birsa Munda's birth anniversary was celebrated as Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas and his 150th birthday will be celebrated next year.

In her speech, President Murmu highlighted several achievements of the country in recent years. Referring to the landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon's south pole, she said that as a country, "we should be proud of this" and added that India is on its way to becoming the world's third-largest economy.

The President said that in the third decade of the 21st century, the global order is assuming a new shape and like 'Vishwa Bandhu', India is giving new faith to the world.
