CM Sarma said, "We held our first cabinet meeting since the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates. We discussed in depth how to deal with the annual flood situation in Assam, which creates a lot of hardships for the population every year "

According to the Chief Minister, there is no river embankment in 264 km area in Assam which is largely responsible for the floods.

"Water from the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries enters the areas through places where embankments are missing. This is the primary reason behind Assam facing floods every year. The water resources department has been asked to come up with a detailed report on the embankments. Were asked to come and accordingly an action plan will be prepared,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that in the next cabinet meeting, officials of the Water Resources Department will give an in-depth presentation on this matter and further strategy will be decided.
