New Delhi [India], Wheat procurement by government agencies in the current Rabi season has crossed 26 million tonnes (MT) and is likely to surpass last year's figure of 26.2 MT this week. Food Corporation of India and state procurement agencies are likely to procure more than 27 MT this Rabi season. Government sources told ANI that 27 MT would be enough to meet the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana requirement and the required buffer stock. Wheat procurement will continue till the end of this month. The Food Ministry had estimated to purchase 30-30 metric tonnes of wheat this season.The largest contributor of wheat to the central pool is Punjab, from where a record 12.36 MT has already been procured and it is expected that by the end of this procurement season, it will reach a record 12.5 MT. Haryana is the second largest contributor of wheat to the central pool. The procurement by FCI and state government agencies from the state this season is around 7.1 MT. The procurement work in the state ended last week. There is a delay in procurement from Madhya Pradesh, so far only 4.73 MT wheat has been purchased from the state, which is much less than the 7 MT procured last year.The initial target of procurement from MP was 8. Uttar Pradesh's contribution so far in wheat procurement is only Rs 0.88 lakh, so under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement scheme, the government has spent more than Rs 50,634 crore to procure wheat from about 20.5 lakh small and double farmers. . The current stock of wheat in the central pool is 26.85 MT against the buffer stock of 26.58 MT for July 1. The government has announced MSP for wheat at Rs 2275 per quintal for FY25, which is Rs 150 per quintal higher than the previous season. Apart from MSP, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have announced a bonus of Rs 125 per quintal to promote procurement in the state.
