Noida: Uttar Pradesh government officials were allegedly attacked by unauthorized encroachers during an anti-encroachment drive in a village in Greater Noida on Wednesday, prompting the local police to launch an investigation into the matter.

A villager was also injured in a clash with Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials who had gone to Itehada village under Bisrakh police station area with the local police team.

Additional DCP (Central Noida) Hirdesh Katheria said, "The GNIDA team was accompanied by a substantial number of police teams who had gone to Itehda village to remove illegal encroachments. GNIDA officials said that illegal colonists opposed the anti-encroachment drive and they But they pelted stones."

Katheria said, “A complaint in this regard has also been received from accused Mainpal and others.ACP Central Noida-2 is investigating the case. Law and order is under control in the village area and further action is underway."

GNIDA said it had acquired land, specifically Khasra No. 435, in the village about 15 years ago.

Most of the farmers have received compensation, while those who have not received compensation have been deposited with the district administration. It said that despite prior notice, some unauthorized occupants continued to construct shops on parts of the 1.68 hectare land."On Wednesday, a team from Work Circle 3 of the Greater Noida Authority along with security personnel and police reached the site to demolish the illegal structures," GNIDA said.

"As soon as the action started, the unauthorized occupants along with others reached the spot and started protesting. They attacked the authority team with stones, resulting in injuries to the security personnel.

“During the confrontation, one of the unauthorized occupants was also injured,” it said.

Many villagers, upset by the incident, later protested at the Bisrakh police station.Rupesh Verma, president of the local unit of the All India Kisan Sabha, said a member of his farmers' union suffered injuries in a "lathi charge" by the police and demanded an FIR be registered and action taken against the "culprits".

Meanwhile, GNIDA Officer on Special Duty Himanshu Verma said that an FIR has been lodged at Bisrakh police station regarding attack on government officials in connection with the incident.

Additional CEO Annapurna Garg said no one is allowed to build on notified or acquired land without permission from the authority. He warned that strict action would be taken against any attempt to illegally occupy the land.
