Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday said continuous monitoring of cow slaughter cases by the state government has led to the rescue of more than 7,000 cows in the last month.

Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary in Bhopal, Yadav stressed the state's commitment to maintaining law and order, especially with regard to cow protection laws.

He said, "All districts have received clear instructions regarding enforcement of these laws. Anyone found guilty of violating the cow slaughter prohibition will face stringent punishment. We will monitor enforcement actions at the state level. are also doing."

The Chief Minister highlighted that within a month, more than 550 cases (related to the law prohibiting cow slaughter) have been registered, resulting in more than 7,000 cows being saved.

“We have taken action against hundreds of people involved in such activities and our efforts will continue,” Yadav said.

The announcement comes in the wake of a recent incident in Seoni district, where carcasses of over 40 cows were found in a river and a forest area. Police have arrested five people.

"A major incident took place in Seoni, which is a border area (with Maharashtra). A team led by an ADG level officer has been sent there and strict action will be taken on their recommendation," Yadav said.

The state government has already invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against two people for their alleged involvement in cow slaughter and transferred the Seoni district collector and superintendent of police.

In another case, NSA was imposed against two persons for alleged cow slaughter in Morena district.
