Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole accused Frieda of saying the state government was missing in action while Marathwad was facing drought.

Patole visited drought-hit Beed, Jalna and Chhatrapat Sambhajinagar districts.

Addressing a press conference, the Congress leader tried to call Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and claimed that he was not available on phone.

"When people in Marathwada are facing drought, the government is missing in action. I tried calling the chief minister, but the call was not connected," he said.

The Mahayuti government has not implemented the water grid scheme proposed for the Marathwada region, he said.

"When the government can build the Nagpur-Mumbai Samriddhi Expressway by taking loans, why can't it do the same for the water grid project?" Patole said

"We will not keep the water grid plan on paper. We will ensure that people benefit from it," he said.

Marathwada Water Grid aims to connect all irrigation projects to overcome water crisis in the region. It was conceived during the tenure of the Devendra Fadnavis government in the state between 2014 and 2019 and was estimated to cost around Rs 40,000 crore.

The state Congress chief further claimed that there is artificial shortage of seeds and farmers are being charged higher prices.

"Farmers have complained that a bag of cotton seeds, which costs Rs 864, is being sold for Rs 1,100. Farmers were also forced to buy other fertilizers which are not needed," he alleged.

Patole demanded that farmers should be given an assistance of Rs 2 lakh per hectare for crop loss and mulberry cultivation should also be included in the insurance scheme.
