The MoU was signed by MoRD Rural Livelihood Joint Secretary Smriti Sharan and Convergence Energy Services Limited Managing Director and CEO Vishal Kapoor in the presence of Rural Development Secretary Shailesh Kumar Singh.

Shailesh Kumar Singh said that this Green Mobility partnership will further support the economic and social empowerment of rural women and accelerate the empowerment of Lakhpati Didis in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Smriti Sharan said that this association with EESL will be of great help to the women of the Self Help Group in rural green wheel ventures.

Vishal Kapoor said that through this intervention CESL wishes to support the government's initiative of setting up three crore Lakhpati Didis in rural areas, reflecting its commitment to women empowerment and national green goals.

The project aims to create opportunities for livelihood, independence and prosperity among women in self-help groups, elevating their socio-economic position. In addition, the project aims to keep rural mobility free of congestion, thus contributing to the decarbonization of the last mile mobility space.

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) is a subsidiary of the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture of public sector companies under the Ministry of Energy. CESL focuses on energy solutions that are at the confluence of renewable energy, electric mobility and climate change.

The e-bikes are provided under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) and are called Sustainable Transportation for Rural Entrepreneurs through Electric Bikes (STREE) for Women Self Help Groups (SHG) .

STREE aims to empower the rural economy, especially rural women, by providing them access to green mobility through the introduction of electric bicycles.

DAY-NRLM focuses on promoting women-led SHG enterprises with diversified opportunities in manufacturing and service sectors spanning agricultural and non-agricultural spheres.

Since its launch, DAY-NRLM has helped create the largest platform for social inclusion, access to financial services and women's economic empowerment.
