Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Friday expressed joy over the selection of seven players from the state in the Indian lacrosse team and asserted that the government is committed to promoting sports culture .

Talking about the government's dedication towards tribal welfare, Sharma said, "Seven players from the tribal areas of Udaipur (six from Udaipur, one from Banswara) have been selected in the Indian Lacrosse team. These include four daughters of the tribal community and three from other communities (The three daughters belong to the Dangi, Meghwal and Gurjar communities respectively)".

He added: “Our government is fully committed to the continuous promotion of sports culture in the state.”

Of the total 12 players in the Indian lacrosse team, seven are from Rajasthan, which is a matter of pride for the entire state, Sharma said.

Sharma further said, "These Rajasthan players have been selected in the Indian team on the basis of their excellent performance in the First National Lacrosse Championship where Rajasthan won the gold medal."

The Chief Minister further said that these girls from Rajasthan are undergoing training in Agra for international competitions. Sharma informed that these players will travel to Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the Asian Lacrosse Championship.

The Chief Minister also informed about the lacrosse players and said, “15 lacrosse players who are staying at the sports hostel are also being trained.”

Informing about the financial assistance, Sharma said, "Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited (RSMML) has provided financial assistance for the training of these players. The players were provided accommodation and financial aid at the tribal sports hostel, which facilitated their entry into the Asian Games".

Talking about the government's objectives, Sharma said, "The state government aims to establish two tribal sports hostels/academies for this sport that will be included in the upcoming Olympics - one for boys and one for girls."
