New Delhi: To strengthen rural connectivity in the northeastern region, the Central government on Friday approved construction of roads and bridges in Assam and Tripura with an estimated investment of Rs 493 crore, the Rural Development Ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry said 78 roads and 14 bridges spanning 563.67 km have received government approval in Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) – III, with an estimated investment of Rs. 378.68 crores.

The government approved 42 roads of 118.75 km length in Tripura under the connectivity component of Pradhan Mantri Tribal Tribal Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) with an estimated investment of Rs. 114.32 crores.

The ministry said the construction of the roads will improve access to essential services, increase connectivity in rural areas, reduce the gap between remote villages and urban centers and boost economic growth, trade and commerce in the region.

It said that in Tripura, the roads will provide all-weather road connectivity to 47 PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) settlements in the state.

The ministry said the projects under PMGSY and PM-Janman Phase-III will have a transformative impact on the region, contributing to its growth and prosperity.

The ministry said this will strengthen the government's commitment towards inclusive development and contribute to the growth and prosperity of tribal groups.
