The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification that exports are allowed through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL).

Although export of non-Basmati white rice has been banned with effect from July 20, 2023, to boost domestic supply, export is permitted on request to certain countries to meet their food security needs, based on permission granted by the government. is allowed.

Malawi is a landlocked country in south-eastern Africa, while Zimbabwe is a South African nation.

According to the notification, each country has been allowed to export 1,000 tonnes of non-Basmati rice.

“Export of non-Basmati white rice to Malawi and Zimbabwe has been notified by NCEL,” DGFT said.

India has earlier allowed such exports to countries like Nepal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, Philippines and Seychelles.
