Following the derailment of a goods train at Palghar railway station in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Western Railways has canceled or rescheduled several trains and restoration work is underway, more than 15 hours after the incident. . Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

A railway spokesperson had earlier said here that seven coaches of the goods train derailed at Palghar, located about 100 km from Mumbai, at 5.08 pm on Tuesday, affecting the traffic of the Mumbai-bound train coming from Gujarat.

There is no information about any casualty.

The goods train consisting of 43 wagons and carrying iron coils was going from Visakhapatnam towards Karambel in Gujarat.

According to railway sources, seven wagons, including the rear guard's van, derailed and some of them fell off the tracks along with iron coils.

He said there was major damage to the tracks and overhead equipment due to the impact of the derailed wagons and coils.

Western Railway has announced full/partial cancellation, short closure and diversion of several trains due to the incident.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Thakur said on Wednesday that all the derailed wagons and the guard's van have been removed from the spot.

He said that from last night, they have started single line operations and some trains are being operated on the (Down) line between Boisar-Palghar-Kelve Roa stations.

"Restoration work is going on in full swing. It is expected to be completed by afternoon," he said.



About 250 laborers were working at the site. Two hydra cranes, two-three earth digging machines, a 300-tonne crane and other machinery were deployed for the restoration work, the official said.
