"I think PM Modi ji has done the work of bringing change in everyone's life. Has been done, so the public is happy and today in this great festival of democracy, people are spontaneously participating in voting.'' When ANI asked him why he thinks people will vote for him, he said that it is BJP. It is because of the development work done by the government, "The new generation needs employment. The income of farmers should be doubled and Modi ji has done the work of giving it.“Modi ji has done all this to increase the income of laborers and provide employment. We have increased the pace of development of the country by taking all sections of the society including laborers and farmers along with them. That is why people are happy at every level,” He said, Sonowal urged the voters to press the lotus button in the EVM and make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time.In the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting is going on in 10 seats of 21 states, which also includes 5 seats in Upper Assam. Whereas voting for the remaining seats will be held in 6 phases. Voting is underway on five seats in the first phase in Assam, including Jorhat Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga and Sonitpur. BJP is contesting on all these seats, a total of 36 candidates are in the fray across all the five constituencies of Assam, with Kaziranga having the highest number of 11 candidates, followed by nine in Lakhimpur, eight in Sonitpur, five in Jorhat and three in Dibrugarh. Candidates are contesting elections. The first phase includes Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, sitting MPs Topon Gogoi and Pradan Barua, M Kamakhya Prasad Tasa from Rajya Sabha and BJP MLA Ranjit Dutta.BJP has nine seats in the outgoing Lok Sabha. Congress has got three seats, AIUDF and one independent each have got one seat from the state. Voting will be held in 3 phases for 14 seats in Assam. The second phase on April 26 includes Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nagaon and Kaliabor. The third phase on May 7 includes Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta and Guwahati. The BJP is contesting on 11 seats, while its allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP and United People's Party Liberal) are contesting on two seats and one Sagar respectively.
