New Delhi: Gold worth Rs 3.83 crore has been seized from the toilet of an aircraft at the airport here, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.

It said that during a search of a flight from Mumbai on Friday, an unclaimed piece of black rubber, suspected to contain gold, was found inside the rear toilet of the plane.

A statement issued by the Customs department said officials recovered six gold bars weighing 5.9 kg with a tariff value of Rs 3.83 crore from it.

The recovered gold was seized "on the reasonable belief that it was imported into India with the intention of illegally smuggling it into India and clearing it without paying customs duty".
