The Jorhat MP also said that the people of Assam were in danger due to the recent floods and erosion. The level of erosion that occurs every year in Majuli is frightening, he added.

Gogoi said erosion creates more long-term losses compared to flooding, as rivers swallow up villages, schools, acres of farmland, homes and health centres.

Gogoi also expressed his grief over the death of an eight-year-old boy, who was swept away by a flooded drain after falling off his father's scooter in Guwahati two days ago.
