Panaji (Goa) [India], Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday unveiled the Goa Industrial Development Corporation's exit support scheme at Mantralaya, Porvorim, allowing sick industrial units to exit of the state.

The plan was presented in the presence of state Industry Minister Mauvin Godinho and Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) chairman Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco.

The scheme targets around 12.75 lakh square meters of land that remain unutilized due to ailing industries.

Sawant said that with this initiative, interested businessmen will be able to get land for their units, while job seekers will get employment. "Many are seeking industrial land under the Industrial Development Corporation. Once the current tenants want out, new industries can come in and create jobs."

He added that the Goa government encourages environment-friendly units. Interested business owners can take advantage of the simplified transfer process. With the new process, non-functioning units will become functional again.

The government has identified 423 sick units that have not been used for a long time. The Goa Chief Minister said, "As per our survey, these are totally sick units. These units can reap the benefits of the exit plan which we did not have before. I appeal to the new entrepreneurs to actively participate and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Goa-IDC Exit Support Plan".

There are 24 industrial estates in Goa where the Industrial Development Corporation is providing land on lease to interested parties.

Sawant added that the Corporation, in collaboration with the Goa Investment Promotion Board (Goa-IPB) and industry bodies, will organize meetings between transferors and transferees and advertise the available plots through various channels including newspapers and websites governmental.

Earlier, Sawant met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in New Delhi and sought guidance and support from him to build a Viksit Goa under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
