New Delhi: State-owned GMDC on Tuesday said it has entered into a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).

Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has recently approved significant amendments in the power purchase agreement (PPA) of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC).

In a statement, GMDC said that these amendments governing the supply of 250 MW power from Akrimota Thermal Power Station (ATPS) between Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation and GUVNL are a leap towards enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.

“GMDC's proactive and calculated rescaling of ATPS represents an important milestone in the company's endeavor to protect the interests of its investors. This initiative marks a significant progress towards the transformation and ensuring sustainable profitability of GMDC's power assets which were previously under constant stress," said Roopwant Singh, Managing Director, GMDC.

GMDC is one of the leading mining companies in the country. The state-owned company has five operational lignite mines in Kutch, South Gujarat and Bhavnagar region.
