New Delhi: The Union Education Ministry on Thursday said in an advisory to schools that girl students should be allowed to take necessary restroom breaks during Class 10 and 12 board exams and free sanitary napkins should be provided at all examination centres.

Noting that menstrual hygiene management is an important aspect of a girl's overall well-being and should not come in the way of her academic performance, the Ministry has issued guidelines to all schools in the States and Union Territories, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) An advisory has been issued. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

“Free sanitary pads will be easily available at all Class 10 and 12 board examination centres, ensuring that girls have access to essential hygiene products during the exams, if necessary. Necessary toilet breaks should be allowed to reduce discomfort and promote focus during the examination,” the ministry said.

It says, "Educational programs will be implemented to increase awareness of menstrual health and hygiene among students, teachers and staff. This approach aims to reduce stigma and promote a more understanding school environment "

The Ministry has stressed the importance of treating girl students with dignity and respect with respect to their menstrual needs, as well as empowering them to confidently participate in examinations and achieve their academic potential.
