New Delhi: A few hours after a massive fire broke out in the Ghazipur landfill on Monday, a thick plume of smoke is still rising towards the sky.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, a major fire broke out at the landfill on Sunday evening due to gases generated from the huge mountain of garbage.

Complaints of throat irritation and breathing problems were received from many residents living close to the landfill.

A DFS official said, "Our teams are there and working to completely extinguish the flames. The fire was reported at 5.22 pm on Sunday. Initially we had sent two FIR vehicles, but later Eight fire engines were pressed into service." ,
