MUMBAI: Indian Railways has removed the external limit of geo-fencing on the UTS mobile app, allowing users to book unreserved train tickets from any location to any destination, officials said on Wednesday.

Western Railway officials said the move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and simplifying the ticket booking process.

UTS App is an official Android mobile application of Indian Railways to book unreserved train tickets.

He said rail users can now book suburban and non-suburban train tickets outside the station premises, which was not possible earlier.

Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, said, “After the removal of the outer limit of geo-fencing, passengers can now book tickets from any place to any destination right from the comfort of their homes.”

Earlier, passengers had to stay within a 2 km radius of the station but at least 2 meters apart to book unreserved tickets.

Thakur said passengers will have to board the train at the suburban source station within an hour of booking the ticket through the mobile application and within three hours in case of non-suburban trains.

“Passengers will not be able to book tickets through the app inside the station,” Thakur said.
