He said the medical college will be affiliated to Gokuldas Tejpal and Cama Hospital and the number of seats will be increased from the academic year 2025-26.

He said, with the increase in the number of doctors, the citizens of South Mumbai will be provided with better medical care, access to state-of-the-art equipment and expertise of specialist doctors.

The Medical Education Minister made a special mention of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and MLA representing Colaba constituency Rahul Narvekar, who was the chairperson, for taking the initiative and continuously pursuing the matter with the state government.

Mushrif said that the government had issued a notification on 31 January 2012 about starting a medical college on the premises of Gokuldas Tejpal and Cama Hospital. The government has completed the necessary administrative processes and paperwork to start the medical college there.

He told the Assembly that the Medical Council of India has indicated its approval and hence, it has been decided to start the medical college with an intake capacity of 50 seats from the academic year 2024-25.
