Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday said the gems and jewelery industry plays an important role in the economic progress of Rajasthan and the state is working to promote the sector and ensure ease of doing business for entrepreneurs.

Sharma said that in 2023-24, the share of gems and jewelery in the total exports from the state will reach Rs 11,183 crore.

Speaking at the inauguration of the jewelery show JAS-2024 organized by the Jewelery Association here, the Chief Minister said, gems and jewelery traders are contributing significantly to the economic progress of the state and the sector is a major employment generator.

He further said that Jaipur is famous for gems and jewelery on the world stage and the state government is continuously working to promote this industry and make business easier for entrepreneurs.

According to an official statement, Sharma said jewelery made in Jaipur is recognized across the world for its beauty and craftsmanship. For this reason, the gems and jewelery industry has been identified in Jaipur under the 'One District One Product' scheme, under which the state government will work to further develop this sector.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has made hallmarking of gold jewelery mandatory. This has further strengthened the jewelery industry.

He also said that a gems and jewelery park would be set up in the state with the support of the central government, which would generate more than 1 lakh jobs.

He said that at the same time, there is a need to promote investment in training of artisans, latest technology and research in this sector, so that these enterprises can scale new heights at the international level.
