Ryan ten Doeschate recently collaborated with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders, where he contributed as the team's fielding coach during their victorious 2024 campaign.

In addition to his role with KKR, ten Doeschate holds a number of positions in the franchise's subsidiaries including the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket and ILT20.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Gambhir, who has requested for a free hand in managing the team, wants the 44-year-old Dutchman as one of his key partners. However, the final decision depends on the BCCI, which has recently favored appointing only Indian personnel for coaching roles.

Earlier, reports had claimed that former India all-rounder and integral part of the KKR backroom team Abhishek Nair could join Gambhir's team as an assistant coach.

The report adds that the ongoing discussions revolve around a possible role for Ryan ten Doeschate following his selection, but the BCCI wants to retain T Dileep, a member of Rahul Dravid's current coaching team, for the position of fielding coach.
