New Delhi, India, should not only participate but also lead the ongoing AI revolution and mobilize the powerful technology to bring the nation to the forefront of the global stage, the country's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said on Thursday.

"We are truly at a unique moment with the AI revolution underway. Its relentless advancing capabilities across the board, its growing adoption by citizens and, most importantly, its potential to redefine the very fabric of the industry." and society mark this as a transformative era,” the former NITI Aayog CEO said at the IndiaAI Global Summit here.

Citing industry body nasscom, Kant said 70 per cent of Indian startups are prioritizing AI to drive their growth, underscoring the critical role of AI in the startup ecosystem.

"India is proud to hold the second position with the largest number of AI projects on GitHub globally, accounting for 19 percent of AI projects worldwide. This demonstrates a vibrant and active commitment in the development of AI on an international scale.

"As we embrace this revolution, the question before us is not simply how we can participate but how we can lead the world. It is our opportunity and indeed our responsibility to leverage this powerful technology to propel Indian businesses to the forefront on the global stage," he said.

Kant, 68, said this is a time to redefine what it means to be a leader and show that Indian startups are not just participants in this revolution, but are driving it with vigor and vision.

"For me, strategic integration, AI-based data analysis, basic research and development, ethics and governance are fundamental. Just as the first industrial revolution gave rise to several industries with the introduction of the steam, AI has the potential to revolutionize multiple sectors in India," he said.

Establishing the integration of AI in sectors such as healthcare, logistics, agriculture and consumer goods is similar to laying the foundation for steam-based energy industry infrastructure, he said.

“In healthcare, AI can significantly improve the accuracy of diagnosis and the efficiency of patient care, directly impacting patient outcomes and healthcare delivery,” Kant said.

He went on to explain how AI can help transform logistics by streamlining supply chain operations and said that rather than taking a blanket approach, the key is to develop customized AI solutions tailored to meet each individual's specific needs. sector.

To ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of these AI applications, Kant said, it is important to analyze companies' objectives and align them with AI capabilities.

To maintain a competitive advantage globally, Indian companies must make the most of the AI-driven data stack, he said.

On the government's acquisition of 10,000 GPUs in the next 18 to 24 months, Kant said this is a strategic investment that will dramatically increase India's processing power, aligning its resources with its data generation capabilities.

"It is imperative that Indian businesses do not just consume on the frontier of productivity, but we must lead it. We are presented with a decisive once-in-a-generation opportunity," Kant emphasized.

The AI revolution confronts us with its own set of challenges, including bias, data security and ethical use, he said.

Kant further said that a proactive approach is essential to shape a future where AI is trustworthy and ethical.
