New Delhi [India], Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), saying the future of 24 lakh students appearing in NEET-UG 2024 is in jeopardy. Several petitions were filed in the apex court, alleging paper leaks and malpractices in the examination held on May 5, seeking withdrawal of the NEET-UG 2024 results and directions to conduct the examination afresh.

“Grace marks were not the only problem in the NEET exam. There has been rigging, there have been paper leaks, there has been corruption."The future of 24 lakh students appearing for the NEET exam is at stake due to Modi's actions. The government has created a nexus of exam centers and coaching centres, in which the game of 'give money, take paper' is being played," Kharge said in a post on X.

Kharge also said that the Modi government cannot escape its responsibility by putting the responsibility of its actions on the shoulders of NTA and there should be an impartial investigation into the entire NEET scam under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Amid nationwide outrage over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the score-cards of 1563 candidates who got "grace marks" in the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Test entrance exam have been... (Graduate) examination will be canceled and candidates will get a chance to re-appear.

NTA said, “The committee has decided to cancel the score-cards of 1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were given grace marks and these students will be given the option to re-appear in the examination.,

"The examination will be conducted on June 23 and the result will be declared before June 30," it said.

The Supreme Court said, "Counselling will continue and we will not stop it. If there is an examination, everything is done holistically, so there is nothing to fear."

NEET-UG exam, conducted by NTA, is the pathway for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
