New Delhi: FSIB, which searches for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, is scheduled to conduct interviews to select a suitable candidate for the post of chairman of State Bank of India (SBI).

Last month, the interview was unexpectedly postponed without any specific reason.

According to sources, three of the four serving managing directors of SBI are eligible to appear in the interview to be held on June 29.

Its fourth MD Alok Kumar Chaudhary is retiring on June 30, hence his name will not be considered for interview.

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) is expected to select the replacement for Dinesh Kumar Khara, who will retire on August 28, when he turns 63, which is the upper age limit for the post of SBI chairman.

As per tradition, the Chairman is appointed from a group of serving Managing Directors of SBI. FSIB will recommend the name and the final decision will be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

FSIB is headed by Bhanu Pratap Sharma, former secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The members of the government-appointed selection panel are the Financial Services Secretary, the Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises and an RBI Deputy Governor.

Other members of Headhunter are former Oriental Bank of Commerce chairman and MD Animesh Chauhan, former RBI executive director Deepak Singhal and former ING Vysya Bank MD Shailendra Bhandari.
