New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday registered a case against a Lieutenant Colonel rank officer of the Army, who is already facing investigation into irregularities in the 2021 recruitment process, i.e. a fresh bribery case, officials said.

Lieutenant Colonel Vikas Raizada and Havildar Sushant Nahak, who were then posted at the Southern Command head office in Pune, have been accused of accepting bribes from candidates aspiring for the Multi-Tasking Staff in 2021.

He said Raizada was arrested in 2022 in connection with irregularities in the recruitment process conducted for various posts in 2021, which also included leaking of answer keys.

The matter is also under investigation.

During the investigation of the case, the CBI recovered several WhatsApp chats and text messages from various accused including Nahak, which revealed that he had allegedly requested some selected and non-selected candidates for MT posts for expeditious processing of their posting formalities and their withdrawal. One such candidate complained to the CBI that Nahak also allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from him in 2021 for returning his original documents.

He said, it is alleged that illegal gratification received from selected and unselected MTS candidates was unduly shared with Raizada.

He said that the CBI has registered an FIR against Raizada and Nahak under sections of the IPC, criminal conspiracy, fraud and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
