Heng Ratana, director general of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), said the war-left landmine exploded on Saturday afternoon, about 10 km from Serey village in Sen Monorom city, Xinhua news agency reported.



"According to preliminary information, four people were declared dead and two others were injured in the blast," Ratna wrote on social media.



He said that children were also among the victims.



Last month, an eight-year-old boy was killed and his two younger sisters were seriously injured in a landmine explosion in Odda Meanchey province in northwestern Cambodia.



Cambodia is one of the world's worst affected countries, suffering from mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) as a result of three decades of war and internal conflicts from the mid-1960s to 1998. An estimated 4 million to 6 million land mines and other munitions remain. From fights.



In a social media post on 27 February, Ratana said that more than 4 million tons of aerial bombs and 27 million cluster bombs were dropped on approximately 115,273 locations throughout Cambodia by more than 500,000 American bombing missions between mid-1965 and 1973.



According to an official report, from 1979 to 2023, 19,822 people lost their lives and 45,215 others were injured or had their legs amputated in landmine and UXO explosions in the Southeast Asian country.
