A case has been registered against four people for allegedly defrauding land buyers of over Rs 1 crore in Thane, Navi Mumbai. Police gave this information on Sunday.

Based on a complaint, police on Saturday registered a first information report (FIR) against the accused under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (breach of trust) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, an official said.

According to the police, the accused allegedly defrauded nine people of more than Rs 1 crore in the last eight years.

He said, the accused offered land for sale in Mosare, Panvel and produced fake documents of agreement with the original owners of the plots.

The officer said the police are investigating the matter and no arrests have been made yet.
