Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesman Peshwa Hawaramani said in a statement that the attack killed four Yemeni civilians working in the region and caused significant damage to infrastructure, Xinhua news agency reported.

He condemned the attack as a "terrorist act" carried out by "saboteurs and evil people".

The targeted Khor Mor gas field, located in Sulaimani province, is operated by UAE-based energy company Dana Gas. Hourman underlined the serious disruption to power generation caused by the attack and urged the Iraqi federal government to hold those responsible for the attack.

A separate statement issued by the region's power authorities highlighted the impact of the attack on gas supplies to power plants, which led to a significant reduction in power generation by about 2,500 MW.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) confirmed the attack, which occurred around 7:15 p.m. local time (1615 GMT). Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who also serves as commander-in-chief of Iraqi forces, directed the JOC to establish a committee to investigate the attack.

Kurdistan region President Nechirvan Barzani condemned the deadly attack, which has also affected power generation. Barzani stressed the threat the attacks pose to regional stability and called on the federal government to take action to prevent similar incidents, identify the perpetrators, and ensure legal consequences.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but rocket or drone attacks by militias in the Kurdistan region are frequent.
