New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on four district magistrates of Jharkhand for submitting incomplete reports regarding prevention and control of pollution of Ganga.

The National Green Tribunal has taken up the issue of reducing pollution in Ganga and its tributaries and sought specific information on the matter from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In February, the panel had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Jharkhand after noting that no report had been filed by any of the district magistrates, who head district Ganga conservation committees.

In an order passed on April 10, a bench of National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava said compliance reports had been received from Sahibganj, Dumka, Ranchi, Rajmahal, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Ramgar districts.

However, the bench, which also included judicial member Justice Sudhir Aggarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel, said the reports from Sahibganj, Dhanbad, Bokar and Ramgarh did not contain the information required and directed by the tribunal.

"The earlier order of the Tribunal has clearly not been complied with by the four District Magistrates, who have submitted their incomplete reports. Therefore, we direct these District Magistrates to deposit a fine of Rs 10,000 each," the tribunal said. Give us a week's time." Said.

The bench has posted the matter till July 19 for further proceedings.
