Kanpur (UP): A woman died early Thursday after falling into an air vent on the fifth floor of a medical college, due to which she had recently become unconscious. Police said they are investigating whether it was an accident, suicide or murder.

"Deeksha Tiwari, a resident of Bareilly, who had recently completed her MBBS course, had gone to the fifth floor with two of her fellow students, from where she suddenly fell into the duct," ACP Shikhar said.

The incident took place at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College located in Swaroop Nagar, Kanpur.

The two friends took her to the hospital where 26-year-old Deeksha was declared dead, the ACP said. Police have detained both the friends for further investigation.

The ACP said investigation into the case has been initiated and it is too early to conclude whether it was an accident or suicide or murder.

Dr Richa Giri, acting principal of the medical college, told media persons on Thursday that Deeksha had completed her studies from the medical college in March and had reportedly gone to the fifth floor of the college building for some work.
