Mumbai: An unknown person has called former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse and threatened him with dire consequences, after which the police has started investigation. An official provided this information on Wednesday.

Khadse, who is currently with the NCP (SP), had said earlier this month that he would soon return to the BJP.

The officer said he received a threatening call from an unknown number on Monday, following which he contacted Muktai Nagar police in Jalgaon district.

He said that according to the complaint, the caller took the names of gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel while threatening Khadse.

The officer said that the caller has not been identified yet.

Based on Khadse's complaint, a non-cognizable offense under relevant provisions has been registered against an unidentified person, he said.

He said that the matter is being investigated.

The former minister had received threatening calls earlier also.
