New Delhi: Former Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri joined the Congress on Saturday in the presence of senior party leaders.

Shastri was the President of NCP in Delhi for about two years and apart from being the Speaker of the Assembly, he was also an MLA and Minister in Delhi three times.

He joined the Congress in the presence of AICC's Delhi affairs in-charge Deepa Babaria and Delhi Congress interim chief Devendra Yadav. Babaria said Shastri's induction would give a "big boost" to the Congress in Delhi.

"I believe the presence of Yogananda Shastri will give a big boost to the party. He is adept at encouraging the youth and has a value system and goodwill (in the area). He has been working in Delhi for many years and every Someone recognizes them." Babariya said.

Shastri said he was grateful to Babaria who inspired him to join the Congress.

He said, "I believe we all should come together as politics is going through a transitional period. I would be unfortunate for the country if we did not come under one umbrella at this time."

Yadav also welcomed Shastri into the party and expressed hope that the party would benefit greatly from him.
