Nagpur: Police have arrested a 68-year-old former CRPF jawan for firing at his son for beating up his grandson in Maharashtra's Nagpur city. Police gave this information.

Police said on Tuesday that the incident took place in Chintamani Nagar area on Monday night.

The man, a former CRPF policeman who is currently working as a security guard for a bank cash van, had scolded his 40-year-old son and daughter-in-law for beating up his 4-year-old son.

The matter escalated and the elderly man, in a fit of rage, allegedly opened fire at his son with his licensed rifle, an Ajni police station official said.

Some neighbors informed the police, after which the police reached the spot.

The bullet hit the accused's son in the leg and he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared out of danger, the officer said.

He said the accused was later arrested on charges of attempt to murder and violation of the Arms Act.

The officer said that during interrogation, the accused told the police that he was angry over the misbehavior of his grandson.
