CHANDIGARH: Former BJP MLA from Panipat city Rohita Rewari on Tuesday joined the Congress, with former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda claiming that there is a wave in favor of the grand old party in the state.

Hooda welcomed Rewari into the party in Rohtak and said his joining would strengthen Congress's hold in the Panipat region.

Responding to a question from journalists, he said that the former BJP leader has joined the party unconditionally and will get due respect and place in the party.

Claiming that there is a wave in favor of the Congress in the state amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Hooda said the party will win all the nine seats it is contesting, as well as the Kurukshetra seat, which is its own. The Indian block is being fought by AAP.

He said, “I have visited entire Haryana.Congress is getting huge public support and there is a wave in favor of the party. He said that the party will win all the seats with a clean sweep.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Rohita Revdi, who served as Panipat ML from 2014-2019, said she left the BJP because she "did not get due respect".

Haryana Congress President Uday Bhan said that Rewari's joining the Congress will strengthen the party.

Bhan also told that she has also been the mayor of Panipat."The induction of many leaders from the ruling party and other parties in recent weeks and months shows that a Congress wave is sweeping through (the country)," he said.

Hooda said Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharg are among the senior leaders who will campaign for the party in the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana.

The former Chief Minister claimed that every section of the society is fed up with the BJP government.

"He did not fulfill his promises. When we were in power, Haryana was ahead in many developmental parameters including per capita income, investment and employment opportunities," he said.,

He said, "What is the situation now? The state is currently number one in unemployment, law and order has deteriorated and everyone is feeling unsafe."

Taking aim at the BJP government in the state, Hooda said, "This government has failed on all fronts, it is a non-performing government and people want to get rid of it."

Voting will be held on May 25 in the sixth phase of seven-phase elections for all ten parliamentary seats of Haryana.
