By Shaurya Dutt New Delhi [India], After securing a silver medal at the Kobe Para-Athletic Championships 2024, Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist Yogesh Kathuniya expressed his determination to enhance his techniques for a better performance at the Paralympics 2024. Kathuniya won a silver medal in the F56 category at the 2024 World Para-Athletics Championships on Monday, contributing to India's medal tally at the competition to four. With an impressive throw of 41.80 metres, Kathuniya finished second behind gold medalist, Brazilian athlete Claudni Batista dos Santos. Dusan Laczo of Slovakia won the bronze medal. Kathuniya made a strong start in the final and took the lead with a throw of 40.26m.However, Cloudny Batista dos Santos overtook him in his second and fourth attempts with throws of 44.10 and 45.14 meters respectively. Expressing her feelings after winning the silver medal, Kathuniya told ANI, "I am happy to win a silver medal for the second time at the World Championships. With this achievement, I have also got a place in the Paris Paralympics and now I am looking forward to I will concentrate." Recalling the moment when he came second, Kaithuni highlighted the challenges faced by sitting throwers due to the new rules introduced by the International Paralympic Committee."The International Paralympic Committee have introduced new rules for whistle throws, so if you go even a little further than the navel, they give it a foul. I came to second place after my first throw. When the umpires stopped me "When I started giving fouls, I felt blacked out and didn't know what to do," he said. Kathuniya emphasized the difficulties faced by seated discus throwers compared to standing discus throwers, citing the pressure of completing six attempts under one minute. “In the seated throw, we have six throws, and we have to throw them in one go.This is actually harder than throwing while standing, because we only have six minutes total, which means one throw per minute. Within 60 seconds, we have to throw and get ready for the next attempt, so it's hard to manage, and in the process, only one or two throws land properly," Kathuniya explained further. Watching, Kathuniya revealed his ongoing efforts to reduce fouls and hone his technique at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to excel at the Paralympics. He concluded, "I am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at the moment, foul I am working on my technique to reduce my IPL and improve my performance at the Paris Paralympics."
