The flood situation in Guwahati, Assam remained serious on Sunday and around 24 lakh people are submerged in water. Official sources gave this information.

Several major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above danger levels across the state.

Sources said that the death toll in floods, landslides and storms this year is 70.

Twenty-nine districts have been affected by the floods, with Dhubri being the worst affected, where more than 7.95 lakh people are submerged in water.

Other severely affected districts are Cachar and Darrang, with more than 1.50 lakh people affected in each district.

More than 53,000 people are taking shelter in 577 relief camps.

Major rivers including the Brahmaputra are flowing above danger levels at many places across the state from Jorhat to Dhubri.

Other rivers like Burhidehing, Dikhau, Disang, Dhansiri, Jiya Bharali, Kopili, Barak and Sankosh have also crossed the red mark at various places.

Animals including chickens have also been affected in the flood and a large part of the crop land has also been submerged in water.

Sources said damage to infrastructure, including roads and bridges, was also reported from various parts of the state.
