New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday expressed grief over the death of five soldiers when their T-72 tank sank due to flash flood in Shyok river in Ladakh.

"Deeply saddened by the loss of five brave Indian Army men, including a JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer), while taking a T-72 tank across a river in Ladakh," Kharge said in a post on Twitter.

He said, "Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the Army personnel who were victims of this tragic tragedy. In this hour of grief, the nation stands together to salute the exemplary service of our brave soldiers."

Five Army soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, drowned after their tank sank in the Shyok river near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh's Nyoma-Chushul area.

Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said that the news of the death of soldiers is very sad.

"The news of the martyrdom of five Indian Army soldiers in an accident while taking a tank across a river during a military exercise in Ladakh is extremely saddening," he said in a post in Hindi on Twitter.

"While paying my humble tributes to all the martyred soldiers, I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We stand with them in this hour of grief. The nation will always remember their dedication, service and sacrifice," he said in a post. Will remember.” ,

Priyanka Gandhi also expressed condolences to the families of the five soldiers.

"The news of the martyrdom of five Army soldiers in the flash floods in Ladakh is extremely sad. May the departed souls rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families," he said in a post on X in Hindi.

He said, "The country will always be indebted to our brave soldiers and their families for this supreme sacrifice."
