Janjgir-Champa: Five people died due to poisonous gas inside a well in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. Police gave this information.

The incident took place in the morning in Kikirda village of Birra police station area.

Inspector General of Police (Bilaspur Range) Sanjeev Shukla said that the deceased have been identified as Ramchandra Jaiswal, Ramesh Patel, Rajendra Patel, Jitendra Patel and Tikeshwar Chandra.

According to preliminary information, after falling into the well, Jaiswal descended into it to retrieve a wooden strip. When he became unconscious, his family member shouted for help, following which three other members of the Patel family descended into the reservoir, he said.

The officer said that when all four did not come out, Chandra went down into the well but he also became unconscious, after which the local people informed the police.

Shukla said, a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed to remove the body from the well.

“Prima facie it seems that he died due to some poisonous gas inside the well,” he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
