Berhampur (Odisha): Five people have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 30-year-old woman in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Tuesday night in an area near Khairapalli under Kabisuria Nagar police station limits when the accused attacked the woman and gang-raped her over a money dispute, a senior official said.
Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said, “We have arrested all the five accused involved in the incident from the district.”
He said that the woman was rescued by policemen and she is undergoing treatment.
An officer said after preliminary investigation that the incident may have been due to a monetary dispute in the ganja trade, in which the victim and the accused person were involved.
"The medical report of the victim is awaited. A woman DSP of the district has been deputed to talk to the victim for further investigation," the SP said.
