New Delhi: Indian boxers, who are heading to the Olympics without Commonwealth Games gold medalist Amit Panghal, will travel to Germany for a month-long training camp starting June 28 ahead of the Paris Games.

Boxers, including world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg) and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), will train with the national teams of Ireland, USA, Mongolia, Germany and Denmark at the Olympic Center in Saarbrucken, Germany.

The other boxers are 2023 World Championships bronze medalist Nishant Dev (71kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jasmine Lamboria (57kg).

However, Panghal (51kg) will continue to train at the Sports Authority of India's Shilaru center with his coaches and support staff from the national camp and join the rest of the team in France.

“The training camp in Saarbrucken will not only provide the Indian contingent an opportunity to compete with quality boxers from different countries, but it will also help them acclimatise well before the Games as the weather conditions in Germany will be similar to what they face in Paris. Similar to the circumstances to come,” Boxing Federation of India general secretary, Hemant Kumar Kalita, said in a release.

Six Indian boxers, four women and two men, have qualified for the Olympics and five of them will train in Germany till July 22 before traveling to the French capital for the Games.

India has so far won three bronze medals at the Olympic Games, with Vijender Singh opening the country's account in Beijing in 2008 and legendary MC Mary Kom also joining the list in London in 2012.

Lovlina will try to become the third Indian and second woman from the country to win consecutive Olympic medals after winning the bronze medal in Tokyo.
