Most of the victims lived in a five-storey apartment block. He said a fire engine and an ambulance were also damaged in the attacks.

At least 20 residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attack. Russian forces fired five missiles at the city, he said.

The capital Kiev was hit by at least one cruise missile, with falling rocket debris damaging a car repair shop, a car wash and half a dozen vehicles, officials said.

Energy company DTEK said a transformer station was damaged, but power supply had already been restored. There were no casualties.

Ukraine has been facing a full-scale Russian invasion for more than two years. Russian attacks on Ukrainian power supplies are causing frequent power outages.
