New Delhi: A fire broke out in a store room of the old emergency building of Safdarjung Hospital here on Tuesday, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said.

There is no news of anyone getting injured yet. He said that a nurse was rescued from the third floor of the building by breaking the window.

An official of Safdarjung Hospital said that now everything is under control and no patient has suffered any harm due to the fire.

DFS chief Atul Garg said that the department received information about the fire at around 10.40 am.

"The fire broke out at Gate No. 6 of the old emergency building of Safdarjung Hospital. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire broke out in the store room of the building," he said.

Dr Ayush of Safdarjung Hospital, who was on duty at the time of the incident, said he and others were alerted about the fire around 10.30 am.

"The police station is close to Safdarjung Hospital and policemen immediately reached the spot. The police actively coordinated with fire brigade personnel, who soon reached the spot," he told reporters.

He claimed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit on the ground floor. Some nursing staff got trapped on the third floor due to smoke but were evacuated safely.

DFS divisional officer (South) Manoj Kumar Sharma said, "Eleven fire tenders including fire bowsers were rushed to the spot. We immediately controlled the fire and rescued an elderly nurse from the third floor by breaking the window of the hospital."

He said the police investigation would reveal the cause of the fire.
