Thane: A case has been registered against a 40-year-old police constable for allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh from a person seeking benefits in a case in Maharashtra's Thane district, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Thursday. .
The man had complained against his friend's brother-in-law.
The constable attached to the MFC police station in Kalyan city allegedly demanded Rs 7 lakh from the man for not including his friend's name in the complaint, ACB Inspector Vijay Kawale said in a release.
He told that after conversation the accused reduced the demand to Rs 5 lakh.
The victim lodged a complaint with the ACB following which an FIR was registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Wednesday, the official said.
