Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a working group meeting of the party to deliberate on a range of issues, including the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NC working group meeting, known as 'Majlis-e-Amila', was convened at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subah here, the party said in a statement.

It said the meeting will continue on Thursday and will focus on strategizing and formulating strategies for the assembly elections.

NC Vice President Omar Abdullah, General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar and other senior leaders attended the meeting.

"The discussions held during the meeting will definitely pave the way for a strong and united front as the National Conference gears up for the upcoming electoral battle. The commitment and dedication of the members of the working group present at the Majlis-e-Amila is an example of this." “There is an unwavering resolve to uphold the values ​​and principles for which the National Conference stands,” the statement said.

The members of the Working Group unanimously reaffirmed the NC's unwavering commitment to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir and "restoration of their fundamental rights".

The party said it resolved to overcome any challenge under the leadership of Farooq and Omar Abdullah.

The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by 30 September.
