Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that for the first time after independence, farmers became part of the country's political agenda in 2014.

Addressing the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan here in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Adityanath said that the Modi government has started many schemes to increase the income of farmers and bring changes in their lives.

He said the schemes range from Soil Health Card to Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi and "the results are visible today".

"When Prime Minister Modi took oath for the third time, the first thing he did was to sign a file dedicated to farmers. Today crores of farmers are benefiting from the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi," Adityanath was quoted as saying in a statement.

The Chief Minister noted that for the first time in 62 years a politician has brought about widespread changes in the lives of all sections of the society through his work and has been sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on the basis of his popularity.

He described Modi as the "illustrious son of Mother Ganga" for giving India a new identity in the world through his efforts.

Adityanath also mentioned that the country has witnessed the transformation of Varanasi.

He said, "In the last 10 years, not only thousands of crores of rupees have been invested in the rejuvenation of Kashi, but the world has also seen it changing into a new form. The faith and devotion of the common people towards Kashi has also strengthened."

On this occasion, UP Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi also spoke.

The statement said that on this occasion, UP Governor Anandiben Patel, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak and UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and other senior leaders were present.
